Hyundai Warranty: What Is and Isn't Covered?

If you are shopping for a new Hyundai or wondering whether a repair to your current vehicle may be covered, it helps to know which warranty applies. Hyundai offers several types of coverage, each with its own time limit, mileage limit and conditions. At Jack Giambalvo Hyundai, our service team can review your vehicle's information and help you understand the next step!

What Does Hyundai's Warranty Cover?

New Vehicle Limited Warranty: 5 years or 60,000 miles. This covers repairs or replacement of many components originally manufactured or installed by Hyundai when a problem is caused by a defect in materials or workmanship. Some components have shorter coverage periods, and exclusions apply.

Powertrain Limited Warranty: 10 years or 100,000 miles for the original owner. This covers specified engine and transmission or transaxle components when a covered defect occurs. The 10-year coverage generally does not transfer to a later owner. For subsequent owners, powertrain components may remain covered under the 5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicle coverage: 10 years or 100,000 miles. Hyundai's 2026 warranty handbook lists the high-voltage battery and specified components directly related to its operation under this coverage. Coverage depends on the vehicle and the terms in its model-year warranty handbook.

Anti-Perforation Limited Warranty: 7 years with unlimited miles. This applies to a rust hole through a covered body panel caused by a defect in materials or factory workmanship. Surface rust, stone chips and corrosion caused by outside damage are different issues and may not qualify.

Roadside Assistance: 5 years with unlimited miles. New Hyundai vehicles include access to Hyundai Roadside Assistance for eligible roadside events. Roadside Assistance is a separate program with its own terms.

For every time and mileage limit, coverage ends when the first limit is reached. The warranty period generally begins on the original delivery or first-use date, which may be earlier than a later owner's purchase date.

Please confirm full warranty details with one of our Hyundai sales representatives at the time of purchase.

What Is Usually Not Covered by Hyundai's Warranty?

A Hyundai warranty is designed to address covered defects. It generally does not pay for:

  • Routine maintenance, such as oil changes, filters, tire rotations and wheel alignments, unless the service is part of a covered warranty repair or a separate eligible maintenance program.
  • Normal wear, such as worn brake pads, wiper blades and other consumable items. A defect in one of these parts may have limited coverage under the applicable warranty terms.
  • Damage from accidents or outside causes, including collisions, flooding, hail, road debris, scratches and dents.
  • Damage caused by neglect, misuse or improper repairs, including a failure related to missed required maintenance or an unsuitable fluid or part.
  • A problem caused by a modification or non-Hyundai part. The relevant question is whether it caused or contributed to the failure. A modification does not automatically mean every unrelated warranty claim is denied.
  • Normal tire wear. Original equipment tires are covered by the tire manufacturer's separate warranty, when applicable.

If you are unsure why something failed, schedule an inspection. A diagnosis can help determine whether the issue involves a covered defect, routine maintenance or damage from another cause.

    Common Hyundai Warranty Questions

Does the 10-year/100,000-mile Hyundai warranty transfer to a second owner?

Generally, no. Hyundai's 10-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty is for the original owner, subject to specific exceptions in the warranty handbook. A subsequent owner may have powertrain coverage for the remainder of the 5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Are oil changes covered by the Hyundai warranty?

Routine oil changes are not covered by the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Some vehicles may have a separate Hyundai Complimentary Maintenance benefit. Eligibility, included services and visit limits depend on the vehicle's model year and program terms.

Is a Hyundai hybrid or EV battery covered for life?

Do not assume lifetime coverage. Hyundai's 2026 warranty handbook lists 10-year/100,000-mile coverage for specified hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicle direct energy components, including the high-voltage battery. Check the handbook for your vehicle's model year for its exact terms.

Can I bring a Hyundai purchased elsewhere to Jack Giambalvo Hyundai for warranty service?

Yes. Hyundai warranty service can be performed at an authorized Hyundai dealership. You do not need to have purchased the vehicle from us to ask our York service team about a possible warranty concern.
